When you log into your Grassroots website, a cookie is stored in your web browser to show that you are logged in. This cookie does not store your password, it only contains information associating the browser with your session on the server. This cookie will remain on your system until you shut down your web browser, log out of the site, or wait for twenty minutes between requesting pages on the site. As long as this cookie is active, you can perform normal user operations or special administrative operations you have been granted to perform.
When logging into your Grassroots website, you are given the option of checking a checkbox titled "Remember me". Use of this box places a cookie on your computer which will remain active for 30 days after you last enter the site or until you log off. Upon returing to the Grassroots website, the website will behave as though you had just logged in. This level of authentication provides added convenience by not requiring you to authenticate each time you enter the site. Since this cookie remains on your computer after closing the browser window or even a system reboot, you should only use the "Remember me" feature on your primary work or home computer and not on untrusted machines like public workstations where the computer is not not under your direct control. Misuse of this feature can be a significant security risk.
